The Rural Study Group was founded on 30 January, 1992 at the Inaugural Joint Institute of Australian Geographers/New Zealand Geographical Society Conference in Auckland, NZ. Although formally constituted as a Study Group of the IAG, the Rural Study Group aims explicitly to facilitate and maintain co-operation between Australian and New Zealand geographers in the areas of rural research and teaching.
