Frequently Asked Questions

Why is the survey being done?

  • To obtain feedback on the views of management and staff across the University on areas such as leadership, teamwork and cooperation, issues that affect job satisfaction, and general effectiveness
  • To compare the data against the 2007 UNE benchmarks and other participating universities so that we can measure how we have tracked over time

How will the survey be completed?

The survey will be completed online, using a code and website address that will be sent to you via email. It will take most people 20-30 minutes to complete and will involve a combination of agree/disagree questions (where you give a score on a rating scale) as well as a number of open-ended questions (where you can give more detailed typed feedback).

Will the survey be confidential?

Definitely. We want honest responses so we're taking several steps to ensure confidentiality.

  • The survey will be completed at a secure Macquarie University website
  • All responses will be analysed by Voice Project Pty Ltd at Macquarie University
  • Results will be reported by Voice Project Pty Ltd only for groups of 10 or more people. At no point will anyone within UNE be able to identify responses from individual employees
  • The survey will contain some demographic questions (such as age, gender, classification, employment status etc), but these questions are designed purely to enable analysis of differences in responses across different groups of people (eg. to see if women have different opinions than men, or if academic staff have different opinions than general staff). To ensure individual people cannot be identified, UNE will not be provided with raw data and the demographic data will not be cross-demographic analysed and reported.e.g. Responses of females as a demographic group will be reported and responses of academics as a demographic group will be reported, but responses of female academics will not be reported.

Can I complete the survey in work time?

Yes. All Heads of Schools and Directors have been asked to ensure all staff are given the opportunity to do this in work hours. If you are off-campus for the survey period, you will still be able to access the online survey trhough the links provided via email. Simply log in to your meail though webmail or Exchange.

What will be done with the results?

Voice Project Pty Ltd will report average group results to the Vice-Chancellor and the rest of the Senior Executive, showing results for UNE as a whole, as well as the results for separate sections, locations and sub-groups within UNE (with 10 or more people). The results will then be communicated to all employees.
