Abstudy and Youth Allowance

Abstudy

The Federal Government provides regular payments to Indigenous students to assist them through the course of their studies. To qualify for ABSTUDY as a UNE student you must be an Indigenous person of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Island descent and an Australian citizen studying full time or part time, on campus or off campus with UNE.

The amount of assistance you receive from ABSTUDY will depend on:-

  • whether you are studying full time or part time
  • what course you are studying
  • your age
  • whether you are living away from home
  • whether you are dependant on your parents/ guardian
  • your income.

Youth Allowance

  • provides assistance to students aged 16-24 years.

  • caters to students over 25 years of age.
