Students Enrolled at Another University

Transferring to UNE from another university involves a couple of different steps. We can help with information and support so that the change runs smoothly for you. Everyone's circumstances are different, but this guide will help you get started. Contact us at anytime for advice on your particular situation.
A Step-by-step Guide to Applying for On-Campus Study at UNE
This guide will step you through transferring to study on campus with UNE. (There is a different process for applying to study by distance.)
Step 1: Prepare
Once you know the UNE course(s) that you want to enter, check whether you can meet its requirements.
Step 2: Lodge an application through UAC or QTAC
You apply to study on campus at UNE through UAC (in NSW) or QTAC in Queensland.
You can place up to nine courses on your application in NSW, and six in Queensland. List courses in your order of preference, starting with the program you would most like to study. Your list can be a mix from different universities. It's important to use the correct course code set by UAC or QTAC.
Please check here for current closing dates.
You will have opportunities to change your preferences after you have submitted your application. You are able to submit an application after the closing date, but a late fee applies.
Step 3: Receiving and accepting an offer
UAC and QTAC begin making offers to successful applicants from January (or in mid-June, if you're applying for mid-year intake). There are several rounds of offers. You will receive one offer for the highest eligible preference on your application. Full details of the offer timeline are available on the UAC and QTAC web sites.
If you are offered a place, you will receive information explaining how to accept your offer.
Step 4: Enrolling
Enrolling at UNE is easy - you can do so online through our student portal facility, myUNE. UNE will send you information that guides you through this process, as well as information about accommodation and opportunities to attend University induction courses.
Your first week at University will begin with the UNE Orientation Program in February.
We're here to help. At any stage of the process, contact us for advice and information.
Step 5: Apply for course credits or advanced standing
Now is the time to apply for credit or advance standing for any studies you've completed elsewhere that may be relevant to your new program at UNE.
Step 6: Arrange accommodation
Many of our on-campus students stay in one of the UNE Residences to enjoy support with their studies and the opportunity to participate in a range of activities. Places fill quickly, so apply for accommodation in the Residences as soon as you know you're coming to UNE.
We can also tell you about other accommodation available in Armidale.

We're here to help. Now, or at any stage of the process, you can contact us for advice and information that's relevant to your particular circumstances.
How to Get Credit Towards Your Degree From Previous Study
You may be able to get your degree sooner than you think. Your previous studies or work experience may give you advance standing or credit towards your degree. This will reduce the amount of time you need to study.
If you have studied for NSW TAFE courses (Certificate IV level and above), some UNE degrees have been structured to include or complement your TAFE studies.
To apply for credit for studies you have undertaken at another tertiary institution contact the Student Centre.
How to Defer Your Studies
If you are offered a place at UNE, you might be able to defer your enrolment for up to two years.
To defer your offer – go to:
http://yourfutureaskune.custhelp.com/app
and login or register to create and account.
Then click ‘contact us’
An email form will open.
Write a letter outlining why you want to defer. Include as much information as possible to substantiate your request.
We need to receive this email no later than the date on which your offer of admission is due to lapse.
How to Upgrade Your Qualifications or Transfer Between Degrees at UNE
If you already have a qualification from UNE or another university, you may be able to enter a higher degree program with advance standing. For example, if you have a diploma in a particular subject area, you may be able to progress smoothly to a degree with just a few extra subjects. To see if this may be possible, contact us to discuss your particular circumstances. If your qualification is from another university, you will still need to apply through UAC or QTAC, and then apply to the Faculty that administers the particular program. If your qualification is from UNE, you simply need to apply to the Faculty.
Once you've enrolled at UNE, you may find you wish to change your mode of study (eg. from on-campus to distance education, part-time to full-time). This is usually as simple as completing a variation of enrolment form and submitting it to the Student Centre.
You may be able to complete a unit of study from another Faculty or University as part of your study at UNE. The Student Centre can advise you on what authorisations you need to arrange in advance.
Many of UNE's diploma programs are structured so that you can smoothly move into a directly related higher degree. Contact the Student Centre to make arrangements.
To change to a different degree or program, you will need to compete alongside other students on the basis of your academic results in the studies that you've already completed at university. For more information, contact us.
