A Step-by-step Guide to Applying for Off-Campus Study at UNE
This guide will step you through applying to study off campus with UNE. (There is a different process for applying to study on campus.)
Steps 1: Prepare
Once you know the UNE course(s) that you would like to transfer to, check whether you meet all the entry requirements.
Now is a good time to explore all possible avenues for applying to UNE — check out our alternative entry scheme.
Step 2: Lodge an application directly to UNE
If you want to study by distance with UNE, you lodge your online application directly to us. There is no application fee.
If you are also applying for advance standing for units you've completed at another institution you will need to mail this to the Student Centre. Make sure you include originals of any documents you need to substantiate your application.

Step 3: Receiving and accepting an offer
Now all your hard work can be rewarded. If your application is successful, we will contact you at least four weeks before your course commences with full details on how to enrol.
Step 4: Book for residential schools (if applicable)
Your registration package will also give you full details about any compulsory or optional residential schools for particular subjects within your degree. It is a good idea to register for these and arrange accommodation as soon as you can.

How to Defer Your Studies
If you are offered a place at UNE, you might be able to defer your enrolment for up to two years.
To defer your offer – go to:

and login or register to create an account.
Then click ‘contact us’
An email form will open.
Write a letter outlining why you want to defer. Include as much information as possible to substantiate your request.
We need to receive this email no later than the date on which your offer of admission is due to lapse.
How to Get Credit Towards Your Degree From Previous Study
You may be able to get your degree sooner than you think. Your previous studies or work experience may give you advance standing or credit towards your degree. This will reduce the amount of time you need to study.
If you have studied for NSW TAFE courses (Certificate IV level and above), some UNE degrees have been structured to include or complement your TAFE studies.
To apply for credit for studies you have undertaken at another tertiary institution contact the Student Centre.
How to Upgrade Your Qualifications or Transfer Between Degrees at UNE
Once you've enrolled at UNE, you may find you wish to change your mode of study (eg. from on-campus to distance education, part-time to full-time). This can be done online via myUNE.
You may be able to complete a unit of study from another Faculty or University as part of your study at UNE. The Student Centre can advise you on what authorisations you need to arrange in advance.
Many of UNE's diploma programs are structured so that you can smoothly move into a directly related higher degree. Contact the Student Centre to make arrangements.
To change to a different degree or program, you will need to compete alongside other students on the basis of your academic results in the studies that you've already completed at university. For more information, contact the Student Centre.
