How to apply
A Step-by-step Guide to Applying to Study by Distance with UNE
Transferring to UNE from another university involves a couple of different steps. We can help with information and support so that the change runs smoothly for you. Everyone's circumstances are different, but this guide will help you get started. Contact us at anytime for advice on your particular situation.
Step 1: Prepare
Firstly decide which courses you would like to transfer to, and then check that you are able to meet the requirements for that course.
In most cases if you are transferring to the same or similar degree you will qualify for entry. However, it is still a good idea to check the course guide for additional entry requirements.
Step 2: Lodge an application directly to UNE
If you want to study by distance with UNE, you send your application directly to us. There is no application fee.
If you are also applying for advance standing for units you've completed at another institution, include all this detail with your initial application.
Make sure you include originals of any documents you need to substantiate your application.
Closing Dates
Check the admissions bulletin for current closing dates. If you have just missed the closing date you may still be able to apply; call the Student Centre on 1800 818 865.
Step 3: Receiving and accepting an offer
If your application is successful, we will send you information before your course commences with full details on how to enrol for individual units. This information will come from the Student Centre. Register as soon as you can, to ensure that you get a place in the units you'd like to study each semester.
Step 4: Book for residential schools (if applicable)
When you receive your registration package, you will also be given full details about any compulsory or optional residential schools for particular subjects within your degree. It is a good idea to register for these and arrange accommodation as soon as you can.
Step 5: Apply for course credits or advanced standing
Now is the time to apply for credit or advance standing for any studies you've completed elsewhere that may be relevant to your new program at UNE. You can read the full guidelines and policy on advanced standing here.
To apply for credit for studies you have undertaken at another tertiary institution send a letter to: Head, Student Centre, The University of New England NSW 2351.
To help us assess whether credit can be given, send the following with your letter:
- academic transcript and syllabus of the courses you completed at another tertiary institution (or substantiation of your work experience, including references and contact details of referees)
- your UAC number
- name of the UNE course for which you are applying
We're here to help. At any stage of the process, contact us for advice and information.
