Around UNE

The UNE campus is situated on 74 hectares of heritage parklands, overlooking the beautiful city of Armidale.

All faculties, residences and recreational facilities are set in idyllic surroundings, within easy walking distance from each other. Anywhere on campus, you're only 5-10 minutes bus/ bike ride from Armidale's city centre.

Below are some of the buildings you’ll want to know when you get here.

Booloominbah

Booloominbah

Booloominbah is the historic homestead in the middle of campus. Here you will find the Booloominbah Collection restaurant and the offices of the Administration (Chancellor, Vice Chancellor and our other top executives). Graduation and other events are held on the lawns of Booloominbah. Many people on campus call it ‘Bool’ for short.

The Deer Park

Established in the late 1880s with deer originally brought from Indonesia. There is seating on Booloominbah drive for those that wish to sit in the peaceful surrounds and watch the deer and kangaroos in the park.

University Medical Centre

The University Medical Centre Doctors, assisted by a qualified registered nurse, provide a clinical service to both students, staff and the broader community. Eligible full time students are bulk billed through the Medicare system.

Trevanna

Trevenna

The Trevenna homestead and its grounds were bequeathed to UNE as the Vice-Chancellor's residence in 1960. Designed by the Boston-trained 19th Century architect Horbury Hunt, Trevenna was originally the home of the Wright family. Some of the trees in the garden date back to the 1890s, when Trevenna was built.

Sport UNE

Sports UNE features a recreation centre with indoor basketball, badminton and squash courts. There is also a 25 metre/6 lane heated swimming pool, climbing wall, gym, group fitness rooms and a sports shop. Outside are tennis and other multipurpose courts, football fields for all codes and synthetic cricket wickets and hockey fields. There is also a beautician in the Sports UNE complex.

Safety & Security office

Safety & Security operate 24 hours a day on campus. Safety & Security's role is to provide a Safe Living & Learning environment. They also provide a night ride service so you don’t have to walk around campus at night to get to your car, manage the swipe card access system and lost property.

Oorala Aboriginal Centre

Oorala Aboriginal Centre

The Oorala Centre is a study support and advisory centre for internal and external Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students at the University of New England. They offer Academic advice, Tutorial assistance, a Computer Room, a Resource library, Tutorial rooms and a Student Common Room for relaxation and study. The Centre also runs the multi-award-winning tertiary preparation program, TRACKS, and the Alternative Entry Program, ISP.

Arts Theatre

The Arts Theatre (also called A2) is one of the biggest lecture theatres at UNE. Many arts performances, plays and musicals are held here, as well as large meetings.

Lazenby Hall

Lazenby Hall is UNE’s main large venue and is used for examinations, UNE events and exhibitions as well as being the main information area at Open Day. Plays, performances and other events are also held here. The Hall is named in honour of former Vice Chancellor Professor Alec Lazenby.

International Services

A must-know for International Students. International Services provides students with a link between the administrative and academic functions of the University during their enrolment. It also assists students to access academic support and pastoral care services offered by the University. International students are encouraged to come to International Services on Boolominbah Drive about any issue at any time during their time at UNE.

TUNE FM 106.9

TUNE FM 106.9

TUNE! is UNE’s own community radio station.  You can volunteer to become an announcer or just enjoy the tunes. The station is located underneath the Bistro near Yarm Gwanga.

University Chaplaincy and Mosque

Three Christian churches fund chaplaincy at UNE - the Anglican, (Roman) Catholic and Uniting churches. The Muslim community has appointed an imam on a part time basis. Other denominations and religious groups also welcome students and staff into the life of their communities.

All the Christian chaplains have offices in the Lodge, the brick building that is attached to the International Precinct. There is a mosque on campus opposite The Lodge and a variety of other support for Muslim Students.

Yarm Gwanga

Yarm Gwanga is a child care centre managed by UNE offering long day care, residential care and vacation care.

Museum of Antiquities

The Museum began in 1959 as part of the Department of Classics and features antiquities from the Mediterranean and Near East, Australia and the Pacific region.

Dixson Library

Dixson Library

The Dixson Library is UNE’s main library. It covers four floors, has over one million books and approximately 25 kilometres of shelving. It has excellent computer facilities, private study rooms,  photocopying and video and audio facilities.

The Woolshed

The Woolshed houses the CRC for Premium quality wool. It is wool insulated with woolen carpets and features a small but full operational shearing set up.

Education, Health and Professional Studies

The School of Education focuses on early childhood, primary and secondary teacher education. The School of Health at UNE provides professional courses to meet your needs in terms of skills, knowledge, career and personal development.

St Marks Chapel

St Mark’s Chapel UNE is a Christian church community which meets on the University of New England campus. An interdenominational ministry of the Armidale Diocese of the Anglican Church with a special focus on serving the needs of UNE’s staff and students, St Mark’s warmly welcomes people from all backgrounds.

Booth Block - Computer Science, Mathematics, and Statistics

Booth Block - Computer Science, Mathematics, and Statistics 

The disciplines of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science offer undergraduate and postgraduate courses, taught on-campus and via distance education. Active research is supported by internal and external funding, including Australian Research Council grants.

TC Lamble Administration Building

The Student Centre provides you with a focal point of contact for all your administrative enquiries during your Study at UNE, from enquiring about a potential course until you reach your graduation. They are located in the TC Lamble Building in the centre of Armidale campus. The Student Centre is open from 8.30am - 4.30pm Monday to Friday.

McClymont Building - Sciences

McClymont Building - Sciences

The McClymont Building is named after Professor Bill McClymont, who actively worked with livestock producers as cooperators and whose legacy has been deeply ingrained in many graduates of Rural Science over the past 50 years. The McClymont Building houses the administration of The Sciences and The School of Science and Technology.

Marketing and Public Affairs (MPA) delivers innovative and sustainable solutions that promote the University's teaching and learning programs. MPA's activities raise awareness of UNE's diverse offerings to its stakeholders in a way that protects, promotes and enhances its brand and image, while meeting enrolment, research, community and partnership goals.

Economics, Business and Law

The Faculty of The Professions offers courses that encourage world class graduates via its accessible network of teaching staff, and its innovative environment that is a strength on which the University's reputation is founded. The School of Business, Economics and Public Policy is nationally renowned for its high teaching standards that are delivered in a unique living and learning environment.

St. Albert's College

As part of our community you’ll experience a dynamic environment with strong academic and sporting traditions, broad range of scholarships, great facilities and large rooms (all with sinks). Our extensive support and tutoring system promotes success and inclusion. St Albert’s is a Catholic residential college, although no religious affiliation is required to join the college.
