The Bachelor of Health, Ageing and Community Services is a multi-disciplinary degree designed for a broad range of health and community care workers from diverse health and community-related settings. The course aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills required to work effectively in health-related community settings and health care facilities. It aims to promote students’ understanding of the backgrounds and situations in which they will work, as well as their legal ethical responsibilities. It aims to develop their skills of analysis and problem solving, as well as concepts and skills specific to different subject areas.

UNE nurse graduates are well respected within the profession, they are critical thinkers, and well prepared educationally for the professional challenges they will face. The 2-year Advanced Diploma leads to eligibility to become an Endorsed Enrolled Nurse, while the 3-year Bachelor degree leads to eligibility to gain Registered Nurse status in Australia. With 25 weeks of supervised clinical practice over the 3 year course students are well prepared for their roles as professional nurses. Students who have completed a TAFE health course will be considered favourably.

The Bachelor of Social Work provides the opportunity for a range of health related workers with vocational sector qualifications to undertake tertiary studies that will equip them to work effectively across a diverse range of community settings and health facilities. It focuses on furthering the education of people in the fields of aged care, disabilities, counselling and community services. This award will enable students to expand the role they are able to play and improve their level of professional expertise and job satisfaction.
