Applying what you learn in the real world

One of the real advantages of studying by distance if you are working is the ability to apply what you learn to your workplace every day.

If your study directly relates to your work, then you should talk to your supervisors about creating opportunities for you to apply what you are learning, or being allowed to sit in on different projects or meetings to enhance your learning.

UNE encourages you to apply what you have learned at university and most courses include an element of skills required for the real world. It is one of the ways we work to prepare you for real jobs after you graduate.

Even if what you are studying isn’t directly related to your work, you should look for opportunities to test and apply what you have learned. It may be as simple as sparking up a conversation with someone about something you are learning to get their opinion.

Remember the point of learning is to expand your mind and your horizon – take the opportunity to view the things you do differently as a result every day.
