UNE Early Entry

UNE Early Entry is a program that allocates a place at UNE to current Year 12 or equivalent students based on their school’s recommendation rather than their final marks.

Places are awarded to recognise your hard work and contribution to school life throughout your high school years.

There are lots of great reasons to apply for early entry, such as:

  • wanting to know early that you have a UNE place to relieve the pressure of waiting for results or so you can plan your big move
  • you have studied subjects that won’t get you an ATAR or OP, but you still want to go to UNE
  • extra security to make sure you get in to the course of your choice

The best part about UNE Early Entry is that if you are successful, and do not do as  well as expected in your Year 12 exams, you may still have a place at UNE.

Who can apply?

UNE Early Entry is available for most UNE degrees, to:

  • current Year 12 students
  • full-time students preparing to sit for the full NSW HSC in TAFE colleges in NSW  and the ACT
  • full-time TAFE Tertiary Preparation Certificate students.

You must also intend to study full-time and on-campus in Armidale.

Can I apply for UNE Early Entry if I am not getting an ATAR, OP or equivalent?

Yes. Early Entry places are based on your schools’ recommendation, not your ATAR or OP. So if you are studying subjects that mean you don’t qualify for an ATAR or OP, you can still apply to go to UNE through UNE Early Entry.

This includes people who have done VET or other courses as part of their Year 12 studies, but have changed their minds about what career path to follow and now want to go to UNE.

You will still need to apply for a UNE course through UAC or QTAC to secure your place.

How do I apply for UNE Early Entry?

Step One
Apply to UAC or QTAC for a place at university. It doesn’t matter if you have not decided which courses you would like to list as your preferences, as you can change them anytime. You need to apply to get your UAC or QTAC number, which is required on your Early Entry application form.

Step Two
You can download a brochure, collect a brochure from your school's career adviser, or download an application form on this page. Fill in the Early Entry Application Form. Remember to write your UAC or QTAC number and your name at the top of each page.

Step Three
Deliver your form to your Careers Adviser (or whoever is responsible for them at your school).

Step Four
Relax while your school completes Part B of the form and submits it to UNE on your behalf.

Step Five

You will get a letter from UNE advising you of the outcome of your Early Entry application at UNE.

Step Six

Adjust your preferences with UAC or QTAC, if necessary, to make sure you get an offer in the early rounds.

Step Seven

Accept your offer of admission through UAC or QTAC.
NB:  It is free to apply.

When will I know?

You will normally know by early December if your UNE Early Entry application is successful.

If the UNE course for which you applied on your UNE Early Entry application is your first preference on your UAC application, you will receive an offer early in December in the UAC Early Round.

If you have a UAC or QTAC preference above the course on your Early Entry application, and you qualify for that degree with your ATAR or OP or equivalent, then you will be offered a place in that course.

What happens if I am not successful?

If you are not successful in gaining an early entry place that doesn’t mean you won’t get a place at UNE. Unsuccessful applicants will still be considered through the regular UAC or QTAC process.
