UNE Early Entry and Alternative Entry programs

Students may have come to you with Year 12 doubts about university education because of fears about exam results, or not studying the subjects that will provide them with an ATAR (formerly UAI or an OP equivalent).

At UNE we have a program called UNE Early Entry which provides Year 12 students or equivalent with the opportunity to be allocated a place at UNE based on their school’s recommendation rather than their final marks.

This is a program that has been implemented to recognise hard work, commitment and contribution to academic and extra-curricular pursuits throughout their time in secondary school.

Successful UNE Early Entry applicants who have their UNE degree as their first preference with UAC or QTAC will receive a formal offer in the Early Round, allowing them to secure their place at UNE before they have their results.

Reasons why students should apply for UNE Early Entry:

• Good students should apply for Early Entry as a reward for their years of hard work, allowing them to enjoy their break and plan their move to University with certainty.

• Good students who are concerned they may be harshly scaled or fear they may get ill or have some other issue that will affect their HSC performance should apply for Early Entry as a insurance measure.

• If students have undertaken subjects (such as VET courses or other courses) that mean they are not eligible for an ATAR (formerly UAI or an OP or equivalent), but they still wish to go to UNE, should apply through this program.

• Students wishing to travel, particularly overseas, should apply for Early Entry so they can secure their place before they go.

• If students wish to enrol in a particular course, UNE Early Entry can provide that extra security to get into their first choice if they are successful.

How does UNE Early Entry work?

To be successful in this program, UNE relies on your school’s assessment of a student’s ability to manage university studies, their potential to succeed, ability to work cooperatively and learn independently, and likelihood of completing the academic workload effectively at UNE.

The school principal or delegate is asked to rank the students on a number of variables such as personal attributes, and abilities. This will be used as a basis for a recommendation for UNE to asses a student’s suitability to manage and succeed at the University level.

UNE Early Entry is competitive, and many applicants may not be successful. Please advise your students that they can still get a place at UNE through the usual UAC or QTAC application processes if they are not successful in applying for Early Entry.

Applying for UNE Early Entry:

Application brochures for UNE Early Entry are contained within the Scholarships and Early Entry brochure. This brochure will be available from your Schools Liaison Officers or http://www.une.edu.au/for/future-students/brochures from late July.

In the form, students are required to fill out Part A and submit it to the school for the completion of Part B. The form then needs to be forwarded to UNE. There are no application fees.
