Info for Distance Education Students (DE, Externals or Off-Campus Students or correspondence students...)
Here at UNE we pride ourselves on offering the same level of support to our off campus students as those living on campus. All our services are available via email, telephone or online. Please look at the rest of the Orientation pages– there’s plenty of information and support available to help you succeed in your studies.
Orientation 2009
From February 16 through to February 20, our on-campus students have an intensive program of lectures, events and seminars to help kick start their university experience. But we’re not leaving you out of the loop.
Log into the Student Support site here (otherwise known as ‘The Insiders’ Guide) and catch up with all the action as it occurs – Ed and Meredith from the Student Support team will be uploading plenty of videos and podcasts from the week’s activities. If you’re up with technology you can use an RSS feed direct from the site to keep up to date with all the action from the week.
To kickstart your studies, go and do the Tertiary Literary Assessment
All off campus students who complete the assessment go into the draw to win a brand spanking new IPod nano from the student support team (see below) - make sure you complete this by Tuesday 10th March
Student Support Team
Ed, Meredith and Frances will be your first point of contact for support in 2009
(From left to right) Meredith (seated) is available to help off campus students and is keen to find out about your student experience. Keep watch for her newsletters and an opportunity for you to tell us about studying at a distance.
Standing is Ed who’s responsible for frontline contact with students on campus. You’ll probably see him around if you’re on campus and definitely find him via facebook or myspace.
And finally on the right is Frances, Manager of the Remote Study Centres who specialises in providing support to off campus students.
So, if you can’t find the right person to talk to or the answer to a query, contact the team and we’ll send you in the right direction.
Contact us via email studentsupport@une.edu.au or via the Student Support hotline on 02 6773 4430. If we are not answering, please leave a message- we are keen to make sure that you get the support you need.
Remote Study Centres
If you live near one of UNE’s Remote Study Centres (also called Access Centres) please check them out. They offer great resources and a fantastic quiet place to get all your work done (along with a dedicated high speed link to the University network, video conferences and free calls to anyone on campus!).
Go here for a full listing and details about our Remote Study Centres.
Intensive Schools
Many off-campus (distance or external) units have intensive schools (traditionally known as residential schools), a significant proportion of which are mandatory. Full details on unit offerings and intensive schools may be found in the Course and Unit Catalogue. Additional information relating to intensive schools, including timetables, can be found here.
There’s a couple of other places you should checkout too …
