Important Information

Commonwealth Supported Students

This information is to help you as a Commonwealth Supported Student meet important requirements for your enrolment, including financial arrangements. Please refer to the 2010 HECS-HELP booklet on the Going to Uni Website (www.goingtouni.gov.au) for the details of what you need to do.

You must return a completed Commonwealth Assistance Form (CAF or e-CAF) each time you start a new degree or diploma and nominate a payment preference. If you have not changed your degree or diploma, the Commonwealth Assistance Form you previously submitted will still be current. If you have not already submitted a form, please contact the Student Centre . The last day for submission of your Commonwealth Assistance Form is due on or before the census date for the semester in which you first enrol.

  • If you are a New Zealand citizen or an eligible permanent resident living in Australia your payment options can be found in the 2010 HECS-HELP booklet. You are required to make full upfront payment by the census date or as indicated on your invoice. You will not be eligible to defer your fees to the HELP loan or receive the discount.

  • The following summary is a guide for all Commonwealth Supported Students. Should you not meet these requirements the University is required by law to cancel your enrolment.

  • If you nominate a deferred payment option, you must provide your Tax File Number.

  •  If you nominate an upfront payment option, you must EITHER make a full payment of the invoiced amount by the due date, OR make a partial payment AND supply your Tax File Number by the due date.

  • Year long units will be invoiced in full in Semester 1.

  • Invoices for payment of fees will be dispatched from February onwards.

  • Invoices can be downloaded from the myUNE student portal from the first day of the teaching period onwards and a new online invoice can be downloaded for each enrolment variation.

  • All payments must be received at UNE by the date indicated on your invoice.

  • If you wish to withdraw from a unit without financial penalty, you may do so prior to the census date for the relevant semester. However you should note that to withdraw without financial penalty after the census date (remission of HECS-HELP debt and re-credit of Student Learning Entitlement) has very strict legal requirements. Remission of HECS-HELP and FEE-HELP and Post-Census Withdrawal Tuition Refund Applications

The University of New England recognises that occasions may arise in which students find it necessary to withdraw from a unit after the census date. In such cases, the academic penalty may be waived and the fees reversed if the unit is withdrawn for special circumstances including:

  • medical, family, or personal

  • employment related

  • university error

To be eligible to apply for re-credit of student learning entitlement and remission of fees, it must be demonstrated that the special circumstances:

  •  are beyond the your control; and

  • do not make their full impact on the student until on, or after, the census date; and

  • make it impracticable for you to complete the requirements for the course during the period during which the student undertook the course.

Students must apply in writing within 12 months of the end of the period of study in which the course was or was to be undertaken. You are required to complete an application form, including original or certified supporting documentation and submit to:

The Remissions Assessment Officer
Student Administration and Services
The University of New England
Armidale NSW 2351

Further information about Re-crediting of Student Learning Entitlement and Remission of HECS-HELP / FEE-HELP debt may be found at http://www.goingtouni.gov.au/
