The 1996 issue, of approximately 300 pages, is distinct in that it commemorates the life work of Alan Scott and Dal Stivens, as well as containing more theoretical material and reviews of a considerable number of comparative and international works in the field.
This issue contains: 4 essays in tribute to Alan Scott; 4 essays in tribute to Dal Stivens; and 4 articles concerned with other notable figures in Australian folklore. Seven articles are listed under 'Theory and Debate' while a further 16 articles on a wide range of topics are presented. The 27 Book Reviews are divided into two sections: 'Australian' and 'Comparative and International' . The usual 'Notes and Comments', iIllustrations and diagrams, etc. appear throughout.
