Incident Reporting

Any person who is involved or witnesses an incident on campus is asked to inform Safety & Security. In addition to informing Safety & Security the emergency Services may also need to be advised depending on the incident.

For incidents considered to be of a minor nature such as a minor collision in a car park, where there are no injuries Safety & Security should be informed.

For incidents involving minor theft Safety & Security should be advised in the first instance of the theft and provided with details of the item(s) stolen. This information should also be passed onto the Police Assistance Line (PAL) by calling 131 444. The Police Assistance Line was set up to gather crime related information and pass it onto local Police Stations in a timely manor. Note the Police Assistance Line will only accept a report from the owner of the item stolen and not from a 3rd party.

For life-threatening incidents the emergency services should be notified I.e. Police, Fire & Ambulance. In addition to contacting the emergency services Safety & Security must also be advised.

What Should I Report

  • Suspicious behavior in the car parks
  • Gate crashers at the residences
  • Stolen items
  • Missing clothing from cloths lines
  • Assaults – Both physical & verbal
  • Damage to vehicles
  • Broken Windows
  • Noise Complaints
  • Prowlers

These are only but a few examples and incident reporting should not be confined to this list. It is far better to report situations where you suspect suspicious behavior and find out that all is OK rather than do nothing.

Students who live in college who are involved or witness an incident are also required to also pass on this information to the Residential Leader on duty in their College or Village.
