Traffic and Parking Rules and motor vehicle entry fees are in force on campus and apply to all members of the University community and others.
Copies are available from the Safety and Security Office located in Shop 4 of the Union Arcade. Enquiries in regard to parking and fees may be referred to this office on x 3485.
Essentially the Rules require that persons who seek to bring a motor vehicle, (excluding motor bikes when parked in designated motor cycle parking areas) onto the campus apply for a Vehicle Parking Permit and pay the appropriate vehicle entry fee. In so doing, applicants undertake to abide by the UNE Traffic and Parking Rules and are subject to prescribed penalties for infringements.
The State Debt Recovery Office processes parking infringements issued on the University campus on behalf of the University and penalties applied are those provided for under the NSW Road Transport (General) Act 1999 (as amended from time to time).
It is essential that staff and students who wish to bring a vehicle onto the campus apply for the appropriate permit, pay the prescribed fee, make themselves aware of the Rules, and abide by them.
It is important to understand that the issue of a Vehicle Permit does not carry with it an automatic right to park on the campus. It should be understood that in times of peak demand there may be insufficient car parking spaces on the campus in close proximity to major buildings.
The issue of a parking permit entitles a member of the University community to park in a properly designated and formal car park bay only, to the extent that such space is available. It is of the utmost importance that vehicles are not parked on grassed areas, footpaths, roadways, car park access roads and the like for the protection of the University’s landscape environment, and for the safety of staff, students and visitors.
Students and Staff are urged to consider alternatives, such as public transport and car pooling, and greater use of bicycles to take advantage of the cycleways servicing the University.
It is in the interests of all members of the University community, and the development and maintenance of the bushland setting of the campus, to reduce the number of private vehicles travelling to the site, as well as assisting with the broader issues of air pollution, traffic congestion and the like.
UNE accepts no responcibility for vehicles parked on campus. You park your vehicle at your own risk.
The cooperation of all is keenly sought to achieve these important objectives.
