Insurance
All approved University drivers and passengers are covered by the University Vehicle Insurance Policy. An excess of $1000 or part thereof applies to any damage to university or third parties. The department/driver will be responsible for the excess. The following excesses will also apply and will be in addition to the $1,000:-
- Driver under 21 years of age an additional $700
- Driver under 21 years of age and inexperienced (i.e. less than 3 years driving experience) an additional $1,000
- Driver 21 to 24 years of age and additional $350
- Driver 21 to 24 years of age and inexperienced (i.e. less than 3 years driving experience) an additional $650
- Driver over 25 years of age and inexperienced (i.e. less than 3 years driving experience) an additional $300
A driver, who has been allocated a vehicle, will be required to pay the cost of the insurance if any of the following applies:-
- Has not exercised due care of the vehicle
- Is proven to have been driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol
- To have been unlicensed, or
- To have been speeding and an accident occurs
University vehicles are provided for authorised travel in connection with official University business, research work or for teaching purposes. Vehicles are not to be used for private use unless the vehicle is part of a salary package or remuneration contract. Where it is established that a University vehicle has been used for an unauthorised purpose to use University vehicles may be withdrawn.
