This site contains general information relating to the Insurance program of the University of New England. To gain more specific details of cover or procedures in place, please refer to the:

Insurance Officer – Mr Nigel Wratten on 02 6773 2635.

or insurance@une.edu.au

General Information

The University maintains various policies of insurance to meet its legal obligations, and to provide funds for the repair or replacement of assets damaged or destroyed. The University's insurance policies are renewed each year on 31 October & 31 December. This information is intended as a guide only. Please contact the Insurance Officer in the Financial Services Directorate if further information is required.

The Insurance Officer aims to protect the University from financial loss due to:

  • Damage to assets or income producing activities
  • Injury to staff, students and third parties
  • Legal Liability to staff and students from university activities

The University does this with a combination of insurance and risk minimization programs.

Excesses

Policy excess may apply to claims under a particular policy for two reasons:

  • An excess may be accepted voluntarily by the University to reduce the premium payable
  • Excess may be imposed by the Insurer in view of poor claims history in a particular field of insurance

The amount of the excess varies for different policies. Please refer to the Insurance Officer for further details.

The Insurance Officer maintains records and submits regular returns to Insurers as required by the policy. If there are any significant changes in the activities of the University/Cost Centre, that may affect insurance coverage, these should be discussed immediately with the Insurance Officer.
