Welcome from the Program Director
The Graduate School of Business has an established reputation in providing contemporary executive education for the business sector. It has an extensive range of offerings reflecting the needs of today’s professionals, and draws on its tradition of excellence in delivering distance education.
The trimester year offers busy people the opportunity to take on one unit at a time and still complete three units within the calendar year. UNE’s expertise in distance learning provides opportunities for professionals to develop and directly apply their new skills within the work environment. The Graduate School of Business provides exceptional distance learning materials supported by experienced academics and an online discussion board that provides seamless interaction wherever you are.
We seek to provide our graduates with a greater depth of understanding in business disciplines, and use their embodied theory and principles to more effectively identify, analyse and resolve current management issues.
We offer our students a flexible and supportive environment to develop their potential by challenging them to rethink and evaluate their current work practices.

Graduate School of Business
Since its inception as a college of the University of Sydney in 1938 and its creation as an independent university in 1954, the University of New England has been a pioneer and leader in the provision of quality distance education.
In 1991 the Graduate School of Business Administration was formed and built up on that foundation to create the first full fee distance education Master of Business Administration Program in Australia. Since then, the program has drawn on its tradition of excellence in providing flexible distance education, providing students with the best education out of the classroom. Today, the GSB has expanded its range of programs to offer that same standard of excellence to a wider audience.
Our programs are accredited with CPA Australia and the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia (ICAA). We work closely with the UNE Partnerships, the education and training company of the University of New England, in developing customised training programs for industry groups.
Distance Education – a tradition of flexible thinking
Flexibility is the key to our distance learning programs. Whatever your commitments our quality course material and student support will allow you to study at any time, anywhere. Your study can be balanced with the competing interests of work, family and social commitments. The programs are structured to cater for both those wishing to compress their study or those that need more time, depending on priorities.
You do need to be more self-disciplined when studying by distance. There are no requirements to attend lectures or tutorials on a regular basis, however voluntary weekend schools are available throughout the year.
Key features of the GSB distance model:
- A trimester year provides three study periods to fast-track your study. It is designed so you need only enrol in two trimesters a year if you wish.
- High quality teaching materials including study notes and additional readings with access to the online resources of the UNE library, including electronic journals etc.
- Support from the unit coordinator and an opportunity to interact with other distance students through the on line bulletin board service.
- Non-compulsory weekend schools provide the opportunity for face-to-face interaction with fellow students and unit coordinators.
- Opportunities for networking are also provided through Local Student Networks.
- Electronic assignment submission.
- Access exam results, track assignments and view teaching material from myUNE Student Portal.
