GSB Fees
- The following information applies to the 2009 calendar year for all GSB students except those in the NIA Program. Students in the NIA Program should go to www.gsb.une.edu.au/nia.php for full details of their program and fees.
The GSB charges fees that cover the cost of tuition (including teaching materials), postage and the cost of examinations.
GSB student fees for all degrees.
- Domestic Students: $1500 per unit
- International Students: $1800 per unit
Residing overseas
Additional fee for ALL students residing overseas to cover examination centre costs $200
Tax Deductability
Please note that fees paid by GSB students may be tax deductible under section 51(1) of the Income Tax Assessment Act. Taxation Ruling TR92/8 states that self-education expenses may be deducted from your taxable income, provided the education for which expenses are incurred is directly relevant to your current employment.
Please contact the Tax Office on 13 28 61 to check if tax deductions are relevant for FEE-HELP students.
FEE-HELP
FEE-HELP is a loan program that assists eligible fee-paying students to pay their tuition fees.It provides assistance to students studying with eligible public and private providers and
students studying through Open Learning Australia. Australian citizens and holders of an
Australian permanent humanitarian visa are eligible for FEE-HELP. Holders of other
permanent visas are also eligible for FEE-HELP if they are undertaking a bridging course for overseas trained professionals.
Students may obtain FEE-HELP for the following types of courses of study:
- accredited undergraduate course programs (incurs a 20% loan fee)
- accredited postgraduate course programs including higher degrees by research
- bridging courses for overseas trained professionals to enable them to meet the
- requirements for entry into their profession in Australia
- courses enabling students to meet the requirements for entry into an award program
- units of study made available by providers, access to which is provided by Open Learning Australia.

How can I pay my Student Contribution Charge?
All Australian citizens and holders of permanent humanitarian visas who hold a
Commonwealth Supported Place may choose one of the following methods to pay their
Student Contribution Charge:
- pay the full Student Contribution Charge up-front or make a partial payment ($500 or more) and receive a 20% discount on the amount paid or
- defer the Student Contribution Charge by taking out a HECS-HELP or FEE-HELP debt, which will be repaid via the Australian Taxation Office when the student's income reaches the thresholds set by the government.
ABSTUDY
ABSTUDY provides means-tested financial assistance to Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
students who study full-time (see the definition of full-time workload below). Off-campus
students who are enrolled in a full-time load may be eligible for a living allowance and
incidentals through ABSTUDY. Part-time students may be entitled to an incidentals
allowance.
Full-time and part-time students may also be eligible for assistance with accommodation, transport and meal costs associated with attendance at compulsory/mandatory residential schools. All University of New England students should direct enquiries to Centrelink on 13 23 17.
The above information is subject to change as new legislation is introduced necessitating change to the fee structure. The GSB will endeavour to keep students informed of these changes as they occur and will have a period of time to introduce any changes while still administering the existing fee arrangement.
