Postgraduate Research Conference 2013

'Bridging the Gap Between Ideas and Research'

When: 28-30 October 2013

Where: Education Building, UNE

The conference will provide a forum for presentation and feedback on all aspects of Higher Degree Research as well as a number of workshops and skills sessions. All Postgraduate students, at all stages of candidature, presently enrolled in either the School of Education, Health, Law, Rural Medicine or UNE Business School at the University of New England are encouraged to attend and participate in the conference.

Conference focus

  • The politics of doing research—papers that focus on discussing issues associated with various aspects of doing the research.
  • Ethics—sensitivity of data collection; Informing policy development (rural, regional, metropolitan); International contexts.
  • Theoretical perspectives—papers that present and discuss the theoretical framework that underpins the research question and study.
  • Post-critical approaches—Feminist, Post-structuralist; Action research; Ethnography; Phenomenology; Post modernism; Critical discourse analysis.
  • Diverse methodologies—papers that present findings from the study or discuss various aspects of methodology, research design or the mechanics of data collection and analysis.
  • Qualitative and quantitative perspectives—analysis of data; Presentation of findings; Publishing and presentation of data; Using technology (NVivo, N*Dist).

All Postgraduate Research students presently enrolled through the Faculty of The Professions in programs including Masters (Hons), Doctorate in Education, Doctorate of Health Services Management, or PhD are encouraged to discuss abstracts and presentations with their supervisor(s) and to prepare and submit a paper for presentation at the Conference. Full written papers will need to be submitted for review to be included in the published conference proceedings.

Please note maximum length of papers is 4000 words (excluding references).
21 February 2014 Notification of reviewer's comments due.
21 March 2014 Resubmissions of full papers due.

Instructions for abstract submission

All presenters must submit an abstract. Abstracts should be submitted in Microsoft Word format, via email to fotpconference@une.edu.au

SUBMISSION

Each abstract must comprise the following:

TITLE: The abstract title should be in sentence case, not all capitals.

ABSTRACT: Maximum of 250 words, which includes a statement of the purpose of the paper.

It is recommended that the abstract includes methods, results and findings (if appropriate), and overview of the key points of the paper. The abstract should appropriately reflect the content and intent of the paper to be presented. Only common term abbreviations should be used; references should be used sparingly.
