Emerging educational technology

The Faculty of the Professions is focussed on encouraging teaching staff to confidently and competently meet the challenges of key emerging technologies. The Horizon Report 2008 lists six key emerging technologies as:

  1. Mobiles
  2. Cloud computing
  3. Geo-everything
  4. The personal web
  5. Semantic aware applications
  6. Smart Objects

Key emerging technologies are being embraced as educational tools while  "higher education is facing a growing expectation to deliver services, content and media to mobile and personal devices." (The Horizon Report 2009 USA version)

The 2008 Horizon Report (Australia and New Zealand), commissioned by the New Media Consortium, highlights emerging trends in relation to technologies for teaching and learning.

The Higher Education in a Web 2.0 World report from JISC (May 2009) is an independent inquiry into the projected future trends in the use, and the impact, of technology in higher education.
