Professor Heiko Daniel

Heiko Daniel holds degrees in Horticultural Sciences from the University of Hannover, Germany, and a PhD in Soil Science from the University of Western Australia. His academic interests include: soil organic matter management and impact on soil structure, protection of organic matter in soil, soil carbon sequestration, soil water management, erosion management, run-off and sediment control, soil conservation tillage practices, and the environmental impact of agriculture.
He is a soil physicist and has researched and published extensively in journals relating to agricultural and environmental systems research. He has supervised more than 30 research student projects from Honours to PhD programs, with current projects linked to the Australian Government's Climate Change Research Program on soil carbon.
Professor Daniel joined the University of New England in 1994. He took on the role of Associate Dean (Research) in the Faculty of The Sciences in 2002, and in 2008 was appointed as Research Director in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. While at UNE he has served on the Boards of the Primary Industries Innovation Centre and the National Marine Science Centre.
