Australian Weed Management Systems
"Jock Gibbon" Lawn, Agronomy and Soil Science
Univeristy of New England, Armidale, NSW
5th October 2000
Australian Weed Management Systems was launched by the Dean of the Faculty of the Sciences, UNE, Professor Keith Entwistle in front of a large and enthusiatic crowd. Professor Entwistle drew attention to the importance of this new book that combines the expertise of weed researchers from Australia and New Zealand and which covers aspects of weed science ranging from the theoretical to the practical. It is the first comprehensive reference book of its kind on weed science, providing up-to-date information on managing weeds in natural environments, broadacre cropping, grazing systems, intensive horticultural enterprises, forestry and waterways.
Dr Brian Sindel, the book's editor spoke about the task of editing the book and thanked the authors and reviewers for their contributions, the publishers (R.G. & F.J. Richardson) for their professionalism and guidance and the Weed CRC for providing funding. Professor Acram Taji, co-ordinator of the Horticulture program in Agronomy and Soil Science and Vice Dean of the Faculty of the Sciences, acted as "mistress of ceremonies" for the launch.
Students and staff from several departments as well as members of the farming and wider rural communities attended the launch, highlighting the multidisciplinary nature of weed research and broad impacts weeds have on society.
