In the School of Environmental and Rural Science we offer a wide range of learning options across agriculture, rural science and the environment.  Our environmental coverage is broad including areas such as botany, zoology, earth sciences (geology), ecosystems, natural resources, marine sciences and environmental engineering.  In agriculture and rural science, coverage is equally broad covering most aspects of agriculture biology, systems, environments, management, sociology and economics.

We offer a high degree of flexibility and learning options with most of our courses being available in both on-campus and off-campus (distance learning) modes.  Undergraduate degrees can be taken to a more general bachelors’ level or, with an addition of an extra year, a more specialised honours program.  We also offer a wide range of postgraduate coursework training including graduate diplomas, graduate certificates and Masters degrees.

Situated as we are in one of the world’s most highly diverse regions for physical, climatic, ecological and agricultural environments (see ERS homepage) we are able to offer a truly unique learning experience that has global relevance.  UNE has consistently been awarded a five star rating from graduates in the Good Universities Guide and students in our discipline have a particularly special experience being exposed through their coursework and their living in the diversity of the Armidale region.

Graduates from our teaching programs are equipped to develop a wide range of careers both within their chosen discipline and outside of it.  There is a shortage of qualified graduates in most areas of agriculture and environmental sciences in Australia today and global demand is strong.  Past graduates of our programs occupy influential and interesting positions at all levels in the agricultural and environmental business, teaching, research and aid organizations in Australia and overseas.
