block quotation |
a quotation which, typically because of its length, is expressed as an indented paragraph |
clause |
a unit of sentence structure which contains a verb, and usually also a subject |
condense |
express an idea in fewer words |
context |
the text that occurs before and after a piece of text |
contradictory |
expressing the opposite idea to something else |
direct quotation |
a piece of text copied verbatim into another text, and enclosed by inverted commas (cf. indirect quotation) |
excerpt |
a short piece taken from a text |

indirect quotation |
a piece of text incorporated into another text through a paraphrase, and not indicated by any punctuation marks (cf. direct quotation) |
