The English Language Centre at the University of New England is an accredited IELTS Testing Centre.
Please note that:
- we only accept applicants from NSW and ACT.
- places in our IELTS tests are limited and subject to availability.
- you must contact the IELTS Officer prior to sending your application to ensure places are available.

Travel & Accommodation
Please be aware that Armidale is in north-east NSW (approximately 8 hours travel by train or car from Sydney). For accommodation on campus please ring the External Students' Accommodation Office on 02 6773 3370 or make an online booking at https://residences.une.edu.au/ShortTermStay/. Please note, if you use the online booking form, you will need to enter your Passport number where it asks for a UNE Student Number, or your booking form cannot be submitted.
Alternatively ring the Armidale Visitor Information Centre on 1800 627 736 about off-campus accommodation in Armidale, or visit http://www.armidaletourism.com.au/ and make a booking online.
Please plan to spend both Friday and Saturday nights in Armidale, as your Speaking test time may be too late for you to return home on the Saturday evening.
Request a place in an IELTS Test
Please note that any information collected in the request form below is solely for the use of the IELTS Officer for managing the IELTS test, and is not shared with any other party. Please enter your phone number if you would like us to contact you to remind you of the cut-off date. Entering your name and post-code allows us to send an appropriate response letter to you.
Please only use this form ONCE per test. Repeated use will only delay response time to your enquiry.
Application Steps
- Download the application form from the IELTS Australia website.
- Fill in the application form and make sure you SIGN the last page.
- Enclose the following with the application form:
- two passport-sized photos (taken within the last 6 months). Please make sure your head fills most of the space.
- a CERTIFIED copy of your passport and visa (Justices of the Peace will certify copies in Australia, or public notaries in other countries). If your visa has expired, and you have a bridging visa, please email or send a photocopy.
- a bank cheque or postal money order for A$280.00 made out to 'University of New England'. Credit card payments can only be made when applying in person at the International Precinct.

Cancellations, Transfers & Refunds
Cancellations made before the closing date will receive a full refund. Cancellations made after the closing date will not receive a refund, unless there is a serious cause, such as hospitalisation, bereavement or accident.
Please contact the IELTS Officer as soon as possible if you need to cancel after the closing date, as you will need to complete an official request form.
Requests to transfer to another test date can only be made for the next available test date. If the transfer request is received before the closing date, no fee will be charged. If the transfer request is received after the closing date, a fee of $50 will be charged in addition to the test fee.
Please contact the IELTS Officer as soon as possible if you wish to transfer to another test date, as you will need to complete an official request form.
