The University of New England is committed to a policy of equal opportunity in employment and in education and ensuring work and study places are free from all forms of discrimination and harassment.

As part of this commitment, the Employment Equity & Diversity office is now preparing for a new intake of people to be trained in current legislative requirements and mediation/conciliation processes. These people will join the existing Equal Opportunity Adviser Team.

The Team aims to incorporate representation from a wide cross-section of the university community, including students from a range of different backgrounds, people from non-English speaking backgrounds, people with a disability and Indigenous Australians.

Expressions of interest from academic, general staff and students should be received at the Employment Equity and Diversity office by Wednesday 7 November 2007. Interested staff and students should send a brief summary of no more than one page, expressing how they believe their involvement will benefit the University and themselves.

A training program focusing on legislative and ethical issues, communication skills, problem solving, conflict resolution and mediation will provide participants with important skills which will enhance their career opportunities. The training program will take place in December 2007 and February 2008.
