The University is committed to assisting staff members achieve a safe return to work after periods of illness or injury, in a way that will facilitate their best possible recovery.

Family and Community Leave supports the University’s commitment to diversity and flexibility in the workplace. It is provided for the purposes of family/carer leave, compassionate and bereavement leave, and religious and cultural leave.

Carers’ Responsibilities Discrimination
Under the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (amended) it is illegal to discriminate against an employee because of their carers’ responsibilities. The amendment defines ‘responsibilities as a carer’ as a person’s responsibility to care for or support a dependent child or immediate family member who is in need of care and support.

UNE Carers' Responsibilites Guidelines outlines the University's responsibilities as it relates to the above amendment.
