There are University policies for handling grievances/complaints about any type of University-related problem which may be causing a staff member, student or a member of the public distress. The range of policies and procedures covers workplace employment and environment, staff and student conduct, and academic rules for teaching, learning and assessment.
[A full list of University policies can be found on the UNE Policies web site.]
Areas that can help you within the University The main areas that can provide assistance or receive complaints and grievances are:
- The manager/supervisor of your work/study area,
- Employment Equity & Diversity (employment equity issues, sexual harassment and unacceptable behaviour such as racism or bullying, disability discrimination),
- Human Resource Services (salaries and conditions, OH&S issues),
- Student Assist (student equity issues, disability, counselling),
- the Service Quality Unit (complaints review, administrative processes)
- Student Centre (academic policies and regulations).
Staff and students should contact one of these areas for guidance on which policies are relevant and which area is most suited to handle the complaint or grievance.
