UNE Teacher Alumni Support Program 2006 (TASP)

fields

The UNE Teacher Alumni Support Program (TASP) is a free service available to all UNE graduate beginning teachers in their first year of teaching.

The 2005 Education Alumni Support Project (EdASP) was widely accepted and enjoyed by a large UNE teacher graduands who completed their course in 2004 and started work as teachers in 2005. The EdASP has evolved into the Teacher Alumni Support Program which will provide ongoing support for beginning teachers during their first year of teaching, whether still looking for teaching work or in casual, contract or fulltime positions.

The 2005 program allowed beginning teachers to share experiences and resources, seek advice and provided a forum for 'dumping' of the school day with understanding colleagues. The participants were able to confidently share their personal experiences knowing they were taken seriously, listened to, and received constructive feedback from peers and UNE staff.

In the first year of your career as a professional teacher, some of you may require similar support or welcome the opportunity to share experiences as you come to grips with the demanding role of teacher. We are again offering the opportunity for beginning teachers to participate in our Teacher Alumni Support Program (TASP). This year we are providing enhanced opportunity for communication between colleagues and adding experienced in-school teachers to our support team.

The kinds of discussion support facilitated by UNE lecturers and experienced teachers that will be available are:

  1. Permanent and Contract Teaching;
  2. Casual and Relief Teaching;
  3. Sharing of resources with your colleagues; and
  4. A social discussion forum to keep in touch with colleagues.

The online site also includes a web page of links to useful teaching and support resources and access to the Proquest database of journal articles.

To log on to the UNE Teacher Alumni Support Program point your web browser to UNE Online http://www.une.edu.au/online/ and use your UNE user name (email name) and password. From your "My Units" page click on the UNE Teacher Support Program link.
