General information for students
|
Click here for important new information that will affect all initial teacher education students (both new and current) who undertake Professional Experience in a teaching degree. |
Professional Experience is a mandatory component of all pre-service teacher education courses.
In the Professional Experience placement, teachers within schools/services/centres are selected as school-based educators to supervise the student teacher(s). Students are supported in not only developing essential teaching competencies, but also in integrating theoretical components of academic units with their professional experience placement.
All students are advised to visit the Course and Units Catalogue to ensure enrolment into the correct professional experience units for their course of study.
For all students each professional experience placement usually needs to be completed in a different educational site. More details about these requirements are noted in the handbook.
Students must be prepared to plan ahead in terms of the financial costs and possible accommodation arrangements associated with their placement. It is not possible to guarantee placements in any site, and particularly the Armidale area.
External students are generally permitted to undertake the professional experience placement in approved schools of their own choice, but must be prepared to consider several possible placements for each professional experience placement.
Students must plan to have leave from their job(s) for each of their professional experience placements.
All Professional Experience placements should be done in a block format e.g. 20 day block.
Internal Students
After enrolment in any Professional Experience unit, students are required to attend a meeting, which usually occurs in February/March, where the Professional Experience Office will distribute the Professional Experience Handbook and placement forms.
External Students
After enrolment in any Professional Experience unit, external students will be given online access to the Professional Experience Handbook. This Handbook includes placement forms to apply for a placement in a specific location that will suit your personal/family/work situation.
