Research interests
Ron Bedford taught at the universities of Cambridge and Exeter (UK) before coming to Australia in 1991. His research interests lie generally in the period late medieval, Renaissance, and Restoration (the Early Modern period), with particular interests in Shakespeare and Milton. His research concerns have been especially with the political, ecclesiastical, philosophical and cultural dimensions of early modern writing, with notions of genre, with poetics, and with autobiographical writing. His current collaborative research project (funded by an ARC Large Grant) explores ideas of self-identity and self-representation in the early modern period. Ron has given papers at numerous conferences in the UK, US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, and co-hosted an international symposium on early modern autobiography at the Humanities Research Centre, Canberra, 2002.
