Bachelor of Arts with Honours

English, Communication Studies and Theatre Studies encourages and welcomes applications from motivated, well-qualified graduates to the Bachelor of Arts with Honours degree programme. The programme is designed to allow graduates to extend their studies in areas offered by the School, either to explore their area of interest more deeply, improve their career prospects, or to proceed to higher degree studies. The School offers BA (Honours) in the disciplines of English, Communication Studies and Theatre Studies. A number of our staff are involved in Honours coursework teaching and dissertation supervision and their extensive expertise allows for a broad range of exciting dissertation topics. The Honours programme is offered both internally and externally and either full-time, over one year, or part-time, over two years. The programme in each discipline involves a combination of coursework units and a dissertation.

The Bachelor of Arts with Honours degree can be taken in the following fields:

• English Literature

• Communication Studies

• Theatre Studies (Drama)

For more information about Honours coursework and requirements, please see the Honours Handbook.

We look forward to seeing you in what will prove to be a demanding but also exciting program.

Why do Honours?

Honours offers students the opportunity to spend an additional year (full time; two years part time) pursuing studies in their area of interest at a deeper level than the BA allows for. It involves taking:

• an Honours Coursework Unit (24 credit points) comprised of several integrated components ; and

• an Honours Dissertation Unit (24 credit points) in which the student writes a dissertation of 14,000 - 16,000 words on a topic of his or her own choice under the supervision of a staff member.

Honours is a pathway for students who wish to undertake a Postgraduate research such as MA (Honours) or PhD. For students not seeking to undertake an advanced degree Honours can hone superior research, analytical, writing, and communication skills that are transferable to other endeavours. A degree in Honours is well respected in the job market.
