Title: The Effect of Trade Liberalization on Exports, Imports and Balance of Trade in Bangladesh Economy

Abstract: This study examines the impact of trade liberalisation on exports, imports and balance of trade in Bangladesh using an autoregressive distributed lag approach to cointegration analysis on quarterly data from 1974-2004. The error correction modelling approaches will be applied. The short-term dynamic behavior of exports, import and balance of trade functions will be investigated by the estimating error correction model. Relative price, real effective exchange rate, real GDP, terms of trade, import duties ratio and a dummy variable capturing the effects of trade liberalisation policies will be the important explanatory variables of this study. To investigate whether the balance of trade has been improved or deteriorated after trade liberalisation is the main purpose of this study.
