Specialist Fields

Risk in agriculture; farm decision making under uncertainty; rural development policy; smallholder farming systems; role of improved technology in agricultural development; analysis on farm-level data for policy making; project planning and appraisal; rural finance; sustainable agricultural development.

Professional Work

After a career in university teaching and research, the main focus of professional activity since retirement in 1994 has been part-time collaborative work with:

  1. Business Economics Group and Institute for Risk Management in Agriculture, Wageningen University, The Netherlands;
  2. Norwegian Agricultural Economics Research Institute, Oslo; and
  3. School of Economics, UNE - some lecturing and research student supervision.

Consulting work had been undertaken in Australia, the Philippines, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Kiribati.
