Guidelines for New Unit Proposals

Guidelines for New Unit Proposals Following consultation with Schools, the Dean has advised that the guidelines set out below will apply to new unit proposals in the Faculty.

1. New Unit Proposals - Guidelines

Subject to the normal academic approval processes, new unit proposals will only be supported by the Faculty if they satisfy at least one of the following criteria as embodied in the Faculty's Strategic and Operational Plans:

  • Units at 400/500 level and higher designed to service fee-paying coursework Masters degrees, ie Master of Commerce, Master of Economic Studies, and the MBA Program.
  • Units for the new E-Commerce and International Business majors for the Master of Commerce.
  • Units for the new E-Commerce and International Business majors in the Bachelor of Commerce with potential for overlap at 300 level into the Master of Commerce.
  • Other units that do not meet these criteria but which have been endorsed in principle prior to development by the Dean and which remain subject to the normal academic approval process (Heads of Schools must attach a written statement from the Dean endorsing the development of units in this category to the new unit approval form).

2. New Unit Proposals - Deadlines

  • There will be no new unit proposals processed outside of the deadlines without special approval of the Dean.
