Introduction

The purpose of the Drummond Fund is to facilitate publication of research work undertaken in the Faculty. Awards may be made to meet, in whole or part, the costs of publication of monographs written by staff or students of the Faculty. Awards are determined by the Faculty on the advice of Standing Committee which in turn is advised by a Drummond Fund Sub-Committee appointed by Standing Committee (hereafter the "Sub-Committee").

Guidelines

  1. The amount allocated from the fund to subsidise publications in any one year shall not exceed $1,000, this sum to be provided from interest from the invested funds and to be reviewed from time to time on the advice of the Sub-Committee in the light of the balance available in the fund.
  2. Awards shall be made on a competitive basis, judged primarily on the assessed academic merit of the work submitted for consideration. To guide it in these judgements the Sub-Committee shall receive referees' reports, the referees to be appointed by the Standing Committee on the advice of the Sub-Committee.
  3. In determining the recommended award for the particular publication, the Sub-Committee shall also consider the availability of funds from other sources.
  4. The first call upon net revenues from the sale of publications subsidised by the fund should be repayment of the subsidy
  5. If an award is made in respect of a particular publication but the funds allocated are not used by the closing date for applications in the following year, the award shall lapse.

Method of Application

Applications should be submitted to the Assistant Registrar with the written support of the relevant Heads of Schools. Applications for the current year must be received by 30 June and must include:

  1. the whole or a substantial part of the manuscript;
  2. an estimate of the costs of publication, together with a specification of format; and
  3. a statement of the anticipated availability of funds from other sources to meet publication costs.
