EB Academic Staff

Yesterday the University tabled a revised 10% salary offer to Academic staff for the current round of enterprise bargaining.

The new offer is as follows:

ACADEMIC STAFF.

a) General Salary Component:

  • 7% Guaranteed
  • 2.7% Averaged Organisational Achievement Increases

b) Additional Benefits

Increase to base salaries through the Roll-up of Annual Leave Loading at a flat $750 per person (average value 0.3%).

This will provide greater benefit to those academic staff clasiified below Level B +4 due to the proposed change in the calculation for leave loading. Improvements range from $21.80 to $294.54 per annum through this procedure and the improvement through this process allows annual leave loading to be superable (which currently it is not).

As the roll-up becomes part of the base salary, it is also subject to all EB salary increases. This process is a benefit to all academic staff and provides some administrative efficiencies.

d) Salary Packaging

In addition the University confirmed that salary packaging of SSAU superannuation, cars and childcare at Yarm Gwanga could also be provided at the option of staff. Further documentation on advantages will be provided to the negotiation team.

(An example of the cash in hand benefit that could be achieved through the salary packaging of SSAU superannuation ranges from 1.78% - 5.04%)

e) Other Commitments

The University also confirmed that the revised salary proposal excludes any new or additional government salary supplementation that may be achieved at a later date. Should such funds be made available, the university will flow such benefits on to staff.

Organisational Achievement Increases (3%) - Criteria

The University has proposed several criteria (that, on balance, would be measured in Dec 2002) to identify if the necessary revenue has been achieved to provide for the 2.7% contingent component of our offer.

The proposed criteria includes:

1.Increase in Institutional Grants and Research Training Funds [1998 Annual Report Base]

2. Increase in International and Domestic Full Fee paying Student Enrolments [31 October 1999 Base]

3. Increase in Doctoral Enrolments [31 October 1999 Base]
