ITEM ONE: APOLOGIES
No apologies were received.
ITEM TWO: MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF 1 JUNE 2000
With minor amendments, the minutes were accepted as a true and accurate record of those proceedings.
ITEM THREE: BUSINESS ARISING FROM THE MINUTES OF 1 JUNE 2000
In response to issues raised at the last meeting, the University advised the following:
(a) that the Vice Chancellor would not be participating in or attending enterprise bargaining negotiations;
(b) that the distribution of strike monies into scholarships was not an EB issue;
(c) on the matter of resourcing, the University had not had the chance to chase up this issue, however the University will undertake to do this before the next meeting.
ITEM FOUR: NTEU RESPONSE TO UNE REVISED OFFER
The NTEU advised of the outcome of a meeting of members. The NTEU reported that members requested the University to justify how the changes in conditions in the new proposal would address the financial constraints of the University.
The NTEU advised of a number of motions that were moved and passed from the floor, including that the NTEU would be reopening its log of claims and that the members advise that a further meeting of the NTEU would consider a motion of no confidence in the Vice Chancellor.
The University sought clarification from the NTEU on when the proposed new log of claims would be made available. The NTEU advised that a new log of claims would be available as soon as possible as they are yet to be approved by members.
ITEM FIVE: OTHER BUSINESS
The NTEU questioned how the bargaining would progress from here. The University advised that it would go away and look at the points raised by the NTEU and respond.
ITEM SIX: SUMMARY OF MEETING
The NTEU advised the University of the outcome of a meeting of members in response to the University's proposed agreement. Matters discussed included the request by NTEU members on the University to justify how the changes in conditions in the new proposal would address the financial constraints of the University.
The NTEU advised that it would be revisiting its current log of claims for Academic staff and would be putting forward an alternative proposal.
Meeting closed at 3:11 pm.
