Further to Dr Herman Beyersdorf's email concerning the NTEU's log of claims, and
subsequent e-mails, I wish to clarify the University's position concerning
enterprise bargaining on behalf of general staff.
The Vice-Chancellor has delegated to me all matters relating to the Enterprise Bargaining
process.
The University, of course, is pleased to proceed with enterprise bargaining negotiation
involving both general and academic staff in the near future, as determined
under current circumstances and agreements.
However, the isssue of representation at UNE needs to be clarified.
Earlier this year, HREA (HSUA) yielded its right to cover general staff at the University
of New England. This has left the CPSU and the ALHMWU as the only
unions with constitutional coverage of general staff at the University.
The University therefore, will enter into negotiations concerning general staff only with
those unions having the constitutional right to represent such staff.
Further, the University will recognise only those unions party to the current general
staff Enterprise Agreement in relation to matters of workplace change.
The NTEU has been notified of this position.
If you have any further questions regarding this matter, please direct them to the
Industrial Relations and Workplace Change Unit on Ext. 3496 in the first instance.
Brian Stoddart
Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research & External)
