Dear Dr Beyersdorf and Ms West,
The email on une-business (Monday 2 August) regarding the NTEU log of claims, and
subsequent e-mails, raises the issue of NTEU representation rights in the
general staff enterprise bargaining process.
The Vice-Chancellor has delegated to me all matters relating to the Enterprise Bargaining
process.
In accordance with the demarcation dispute concerning union coverage and representation of
general staff at higher education institutions within NSW [Print J0369], the CPSU, ALHMWU
and HSUA (who have now yielded such rights to the CPSU) are the unions with constitutional
coverage in relation to general staff at the University of New England.
Therefore, as of 3 August 1999, the University will only recognise those unions with
constitutional coverage to represent general staff during this round of Enterprise
Bargaining.
This decision is also in line with the decision of Commissioner Smith in the HEGSS
simplification process before the Australian Industrial Relations Commission on 6 June
1999.
Further, the University will recognise only those unions party to the current general
staff Enterprise Agreement in relation to matters of workplace change.
If you have any questions regarding this issue, do not hesitate to contact Chris Burrell,
Industrial Relations Officer on Ext 3496.
Yours sincerely,
Professor Brian Stoddart
Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research & External)
