Ben O'Connor

Mr Benjamin O'Connor

Benjamin O'Connor was a member of Earle Page College from 1997-99 and was a recipient of the SCR Academic Prize for a 2nd year student in 1998, the Resident Academic Fellow for Nursing in 1999 and Non-Resident Academic Fellow for Nursing in 2000.

After graduating with a Bachelor of Nursing, he took up a position at Tamworth Base Hospital and later at Royal Darwin Hospital. He completed post-graduate studies and became a Clinical Nurse Specialist (In Accident and Emergency). At the Royal Darwin Hospital, he headed up the Resuscitation Team for the transfer of Bali bombing victims. Ben was so well regarded by his nursing colleagues that at the time of his death his name was being put forward for the award of ‘Young Territorian of the Year’. After his death, the Royal Darwin Hospital named the training room after him in recognition of his great achievements there.

Ben displayed a range of special qualities and achieved some extraordinary things in his short career as a Nurse. He was a natural leader; he loved life in Earle Page College and encouraged both his brother, Jeremy, and sister, Emily, to come to the College.
