You are here: UNE Home / Duval / Your floor

Your floor

Duval has 12 different blocks (staircases), from A block to L block. 4 blocks have ground floors, all blocks have a mid and a top floor. Each floor has around 8 people, boys and girls, first year to sixth year students. Students can opt to live on a designated Single Sex floor or in an alcohol free area. Each floor also has a shared kitchenette and a shared bathroom. Most bathrooms have two sinks, two showers and two toilets. Some bathrooms even have baths for a good soak after a long day of lectures. Every kitchenette has a fridge, a sink, a microwave and a kettle. Many students also bring other appliances, from toasted sandwich makers to milkshake makers.

What to bring

My Room

This is just a guide!
*Washing basket (if it’s totally enclosed, no holes, you can throw ice and drinks in it on a hot day!)
*Pegs
*Coat-hangers
*Washing powder/liquid
*Clothes Horse (maybe one that can hook over the back of you door?)
*Towels (don’t forget that there is a pool at UNE)
*Posters
*Photos
*Cushions
*Blutac
*Toiletries
*Costumes (silly hats, tutus, paint, stickers, anything creative for all of the dress up functions)
*Formal outfits, dresses – long and short, suits, etc.
*Plastic cups                                        *Toys
*Plastic bowls, forks etc for late night study snacks
*Warm Clothes! Armidale is in the mountains, it can get quite chilly (even in the summer!!)
*Sports gear (because you’ll play sport for the college!)
*Arty stuff (bring along anything creative and enter it into the intercollegiate cultural competition, eg. Art, short stories, poetry, photography, etc.)

You can bring along a range of things to make your room feel just like home!
Bring your TV, a mini fridge, radio, stereo, dvd player, and fairy lights. You may also need to bring along a powerboard. In the interests of fire safety it is important that all electrical equipment is safety tagged (by an electrician or at an electrics store) before you arrive! If you have your own computer or laptop, you’ll need a category 5 ethernet cable to connect to the UNE network and to the internet. You can buy one at the UNE IT shop if you need to.
Don’t panic if you forget your toothbrush. There are plenty of places to shop in Armidale and the bus takes less than ten minutes to get to town.
