Senior Common Room

Duval Senior Common Room is an active group of resident and non-resident members, all of whom have a keen interest in Duval College. The non-residents are mainly, although not exclusively, academics and members of the University community and the residents consist of the Resident Fellows and Academic Mentors of the college.

The Senior Common Room members meet regularly throughout the academic year in order to discuss issues relating to the college and to give advice to the College Principal, if necessary. They also attend the College formal dinners and provide a vital link between college residents and the rest of the University and/or the community.

SCR members give academic and personal support and advice to students and provides funding for academic awards in recognition of academic achievements. The SCR also encourages student development in artistic performance, debating, poetry and short-story writing and sport.

Because Duval is such an harmonious college, its Senior Common Room fits well into its overall structure and is part of a great team working together to maintain its reputation of excellence.

Senior Common Room members assist in very many different ways.  The Law Lecturers come in for lunch on a weekly basis for discussions with the Law Students.

Other SCR members run very popular Personal Development Programmes throughout three terms of the year. There is help with Languages and Genetics, Nursing and Economics and Accounting. Additional help is available all year round – you just have to ask for it!
