Leadership and Committees
At Duval College there are many opportunities for students to get involved in groups and committees. The main committee is the JCR Committee, but there are also many others. Ball committee organises ball and recovery each year. They make tickets, choose menus, take payments and decorate the venue. Constitution Committee is responsible for ensuring that the Duval constitution is current and suitably applicable to the running of the College. They take votes, make amendments and make changes to the constitution at the College’s Quarterly General Meetings. Duval also has an annually appointed Marketing Officer who helps to promote the UNE Colleges.
The intercollegiate sporting and cultural competitions also have representatives. These PT, MB and SFK (Men’s Sports, Women’s Sports and Culture respectively) competition Representatives are responsible for organising groups and supporters for activities, bus trips to venues, and just generally getting people excited about representing and supporting Duval College. Magazine Committee puts together an annual magazine filled with quotes, photos and memories. Food Committee is the link between students and the dining hall staff. Sports Council organises the Sports awards dinners and college sporting merchandise and jerseys. The Hawkesbury Canoe Classic (HCC) Committee helps to organise the large group of students that participates in this race each year. They help with fundraising ideas, organise paddling practice sessions and ensure equipment is cared for. The Valedictory dinner is also organised by a group of students who put together a donation to the college from the graduating students that is awarded on the night.
Duval College provides a huge amount of opportunities for students to get involved in College life. All of these groups and committees give our students the chance to practice skills that are extremely useful in their chosen career. The positions also bode well in curriculum vitas.
