Applying

"The people in Duval are the best part - they're all helpful and so nice which is really important when you come into a new environment like this." - Matt, Sydney, Bachelor of Medicine

Welcome to Duval College!

Choosing what to study at university, and choosing where to live whilst you study, can be quite difficult. Try and do as much research as you can. Have a look at all of UNE's Colleges, try and do a tour or check out their websites. It might also be a good idea to give the College a call and ask any questions that you might have. All of UNE's Residences are different. All of them provide safe, supportive environments with a balance between social, sporting and academic activities. Don't forget that it is never too late to change your mind. If you are not happy with your choice let the College staff know and you can transfer to a different College. Whatever your choice may be, you will have a memorable time at College and will make wonderful friendships and memories.

To help you with your choice of College, why not see what some Duvalians do from day to day by reading what they say in A day in the life of...

How to get to Duval College

How to get to Duval

When driving to Armidale you will most likely come into town on the New England Highway. There are plenty of signs telling you when to turn off to UNE. If you are coming over from the coast you will drive through Armidale to get to the University.

If you are arriving at UNE by train, plane or bus, you can catch a taxi to Duval college. It will be a quick and cheap trip because Armidale is quite small. When you are booking your trip remeber that Armidale is a rural centre and there may only be one daily run of transport. It is also a good idea to get tickets and bookings organised early because places are normally limited.

Moving In

Each year the Resident Fellows, Academic Mentors and the appointed O'Week committee members arrive before the new students ('freshers'). They get the College ready for the freshers' arrival by putting name tags on room doors, putting up signs, getting name badges and shirts organised and fine tuning the O'Week activities. On the day that the freshers arrive the Committee wears bright shirts and name tags so that they can be easily identified. They help everyone move in and find their way around and start making new friends. They help prevent homesickness, do tours and coordinate the fun and games during O'week. Freshers have no reason to be nervous, they are all new together and everything during O'Week is designed to help them to fit in. The returning/senior students arrive on the Friday after the freshers are well and truly settled in.
