Getting Started & Applying
“If you want a place with a heart of gold and the spirit and pride to take on the world, come join me at D&S. As our college motto says, Strength Through Unity! Doesn't that remind you of the mateship in the bush!” – Todd, 4th Year Livestock Science, RF

Applying
Choosing what to do when you have finished school can be very difficult. Many people choose to go overseas or to work for a year. When you do decide to go to University you are then faced with figuring out what degree to do (the Student Centre can help you here) and which College to live in. It’s great to really do your research. Check out everyone’s websites, do as many tours as you can and ASK QUESTIONS!! Ring around and find the college that is best for you. UNE’s Colleges are all very different, some focus more on sport, some on academia. All of the Colleges have a great balance and provide safe, secure environments in which learning and growing are encouraged, and unforgettable experiences and friendships are gained.
To apply for College please fill in the online application form. All information from us will be sent to the email address that you provide on your application form. Choose Drummond and Smith College as your first preference. We will respond to your application and will hold it until UNE sends out formal offers towards the end of the year. Students who have already accepted a place at UNE (eg. deferrals) will also hear from us when the first round of offers is sent out by UNE.
For any information about the progress of your application, please don't hesitate to contact us.
Once you have been sent an official offer of a place at Drummond and Smith College, you will need to go online and accept this offer. An initial payment will be required to secure your place at College. Again, please don't hesitate to contact us with any queries.
During your application process, don't forget to have a look at Scholarship opportunities at UNE.

See you soon!
Arriving on Campus
If you are driving to Armidale it is really easy to find the university. You will come in off the New England Highway. Directions to UNE are clearly signposted. After you have turned off the highway you will turn left at the large roundabout and travel around 500 meters. You will see the green UNE sign and you can take a right to get to the College Office, or you can continue straight and take the next right into the College carparks. Drummond and Smith College is the first College you will see. It is a big cream square building with long vertical windows situated on the corner.
If you are arriving by train, plane or bus, you can catch a taxi to the college. As Armidale is relatively small, this taxi ride will take around ten minutes and should cost approximately $15.00. Try and get tickets and bookings organised early. Ensure that flights are booked early as they can be expensive and limited. Keep in mind that trains and buses may only run one daily trip to Armidale.
Moving In
Every year we get very excited when the new students start arriving. We get everything ready, from name badges to-shirts. Your Resident Fellow already knows your name and everyone is ready to show the ‘freshers’ around and to make them feel welcome.
Arriving at College can make even the bravest first year student nervous. Just remember that there are a hundred of you, all in the same boat! Everything is organised for you and the activities in Orientation Week are designed to help you settle in and get to know everyone quickly and easily. You’ll be put in groups to play games, go on treasure hunts and more. So, there’s no need to feel nervous, just feel excited to meet your new family at your new home!
Don’t ever be afraid to ask questions! If you want to know anything about college before you arrive just ring the office. Once you are here you can talk to the cleaners (Deb and Rob are lovely!), your RF, to the Senior RF, to the College Principal and to the office ladies.
