College life - Academic

“The advantage of living at College is that help is always close by. If you are stuck with an assignment, you don’t have to wait for your next class to talk to your lecturer, because there is always another student willing to help you out. Besides, we have a great team of Academic Mentors who are always willing to assist.” – Carly Marie Joyce (Academic Mentor 2012, Bachelor of Arts/Teaching, Goldcoast)

College is foremost a place to focus on your University studies. Drummond & Smith college respects every college member in their attempt to realize the best possible results in their chosen course and at D&S we do the best we can for you to achieve this goal.

Manic Monday

"Manic Monday" is our very own study night. All the Academic Mentors will be in the Dining Hall from 7pm onwards to help all students with questions they may have. However, lots of residents make their way down to the Dining Hall on this night to work on their assignments, prepare for class or discuss group presentations.

The Academic Mentors always make sure there is a free cup of coffee, tea or milo available and often doughnuts are brought in to make sure the studious residents don’t starve!

Pre Examination Period (PEP)

The weeks leading up to the main UNE examination periods can be stressful for some students. That’s the time when all your hard work will have to be put down on a piece of paper in a two hour exam… To make sure every student has the best possible preparation time for his or her exam, the College will minimise the noise during the day and night.

Of course, there are breakout periods where you can relax, kick a football around the courtyard or have a chat with your mates!

Study breaks

For the exam period, the Drummond & Smith Students Association organises a weekly “Study Break”. All the hard working students will be able to enjoy a free cup of coffee, tea or milo and some doughnuts in our main common room, the GB Room.
