The conference contains a full day excursion and the cost of the excursion and the midday meal are included in the conference fee. The evening meal on this day is not included in the conference registration. You will be asked to number these in order of preference on the registation form.

1. Brisbane City Highlights
(with Koalas)

This is a locally based excursion. The city tour showcases Brisbane's convict heritage and other sites of historical significance including: Tower Mill Observatory, Parliament House, Kangaroo Point cliffs (offering a spectacular view of the city), Story Bridge, Customs House, China Town and the Old Treasury. Historic Newstead House, the oldest private residence in Queensland, and the South Bank precinct will be visited. The tour continues to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary where you will see kangaroos, koalas, snakes, dingoes, and a Tasmanian Devil.
Departs 9.30am - returns 4.45pm (approximately)

2. O'Reilly's & Mt Tamborine Tour

This is a Rain forest based excursion, which travels through a World Heritage area. It will take you through Lamington National Park to Mt Tambourine, with panoramic views. Travel then to O'Reilly's, a guesthouse with historic significance, situated in the midst of the rainforest. The stop here includes an opportunity to visit the mountain wilderness area, feed the wild birds, including parrots, and enjoy the rainforest treetop walk. Return through the historic town of Canungra, with a wine tasting at the Canungra Valley Vineyard.

3. Springbrook, Natural Arch & Tropical Fruit World

This excursion highlights two National Parks, the Gwongorella and Warrie National Parks, with views of majestic waterfalls and lookouts. The Natural Arch National Park is a highlight, with a natural rock bridge set ini the rainforest. The tour includes some time for walking in the rainforests. A plantation tour, at Tropical Fruit World, will allow you to taste a range of tropical fruit, and to travel through the fruit orchards.

4. Byron Bay & Tweed Coast
(with Minjungbal Aboriginal Museum and Cultural Centre)

Byron Bay (NSW) is about 180 kms south of Brisbane and is Australia's most easterly point. This tour gives the opportunity to cruise along the Tweed River, enjoying morning tea and spectacular views of Mt. Warning, so named because it warned Captain James Cook that land was nearby. This tour will include a guided tour of the Minjungbal Aboriginal Museum. The Minjungbal Museum is located at a significant Aboriginal site, a bora ring, which can be visited on a Mangrove boardwalk. Byron Bay Township and Cape Byron Lighthouse are also visited, and the bus trip affords spectacular views of coastline, beaches and rainforest.

5. Sunshine Coast & Noosa

This excursion takes you to one of Queensland's spectacular beach areas: the Sunshine Coast, north of Brisbane. The tour includes views of the Glasshouse Mountains and travel through Australia's largest pineapple and ginger producing area which also produces macadamia nuts. The excursion includes a visit to the Big Pineapple, with displays on pineapple plantations and an opportunity to take one of the information rides. The rest of the excursion concentrates on the coast, with stops at Mooloolaba for its Wharf complex and Beaches, and Noosa Heads, where there will be time to browse through the shops, walk through the Noosa National Park, or enjoy the beaches.

6. Aboriginal Culture & Wildlife Cruise

In the morning, enjoy a relaxing cruise on the Brisbane River, past mangroves and prestige suburbs. Then on to Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary to see kangaroos, koalas, snakes, dingoes and a Tasmanian devil. Following lunch, take a fascinating cultural journey into the life and history of Australia's Aboriginal people, stop at Mt Coot-tha Look out for magnificent views of Brisbane and to learn the traditional names of surrounding suburbs, walk through the Botanical Gardens and learn about Bush Tucker, visit a local sacred site (a bora ring), and try throwing a boomerang and playing a didgeridoo.

Each trip has both minimum and maximum numbers, so we cannot guarantee that any one tour will be run, or that a place will be available on your first choice of excursion.
